A New Thanksgiving Tradition

It is no secret that I am not a fan of Halloween, so when I was thinking about an alternative several years ago I got the idea I am about to share with you.  Whether or not celebrating Halloween is on your agenda this year, I believe that this is something that you will find to be a great sense of encouragement for you and for others, and perhaps this could become a tradition you will want to participate in each year.

Do you find that on Thanksgiving there is very little time actually given to remembering those things we are to be thankful for?  I don’t know about you, but usually that day is given to preparing the scrumptious Thanksgiving turkey (or ham for some) and all the fixings, the pies, and watching football games.  Is that the same for you?  There are so many things for which we can be thankful for yet a few people sharing a couple things before the blessing is given over the meal hardly scratches the surface.  Don’t get me wrong, I think that is good and important, but to have the time we give for acknowledging things we are to be thankful for to just a few minutes really does a disservice towards the holiday we call Thanksgiving.  Would you agree?

So, what I propose is the start of “A Season of Thanksgiving”.  For 30 days leading up to Thanksgiving, I challenge each of you to take the time to think of at least one thing to be thankful for and to share it with someone else.  However you want to go about that is up to you, but if you have a Twitter account I invite you to join me and others to tweet each day at least one thing your thankful for using the hashtag, #ShopharChat.  We will begin this on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.  This will give you an opportunity to share the things you’re thankful for to others that need the encouragement only your testimony will give them.  That’s right.  Sharing what you are thankful for is in essence the sharing of a testimony of something good in your life, but we’ll keep the focus on sharing things to be thankful for.

Will you join me on Twitter starting Tuesday, October 23, 2012, using the hashtag #ShopharChat, and for 30 days share with the rest of us something that you are thankful for?  I’m not limiting this to a particular period of time each day as we’re each in different time zones, so if we can share these things as we think of them throughout the day it could help make each day a day of Thanksgiving.  If you will join me in this I ask that you will ‘like’ and ‘share’ this article with others.  If you are on Twitter I ask that you will re-tweet this to others.   Let’s see how many people will join us and be a part of what I’m calling, “A Season of Thanksgiving”.

Great idea! But I don’t do Twitter!
